Base44 self-hosted alternative: how we replaced it with Supabase

Summary

We replaced a $50/month Base44 app with a self-hosted Supabase backend and a Cloudflare Pages frontend, costing $5/month — same peer-recognition platform, a fraction of the bill, for a 30-person team.

Problem

The team ran a peer-recognition platform on Base44, where staff award each other points as appreciation. It worked, but it was a $50-a-month bill for what the app itself didn’t need to be a paid platform to do.

Solution

We chose to move the app off Base44 onto our own infrastructure: a self-hosted Supabase backend paired with a Cloudflare Pages frontend, replacing the $50/month plan with a $5/month hosting bill.

How

The app was rebuilt onto self-hosted Supabase for the database and backend, with Cloudflare Pages serving the frontend — the same peer-recognition workflow, migrated off Base44 entirely.

Result

The peer-recognition platform kept working exactly as before, on a $5/month bill instead of $50/month — a $45/month saving, fully owned instead of rented.
